Carleen was once a busy tin mining area, but is now a sleepy hamlet close to Tregonning Hill, with its amazing views of the sea and coastline to the South, North and West, just as if you were on an island. Carleen is three miles from Porthleven, a quaint picturesque fishing village, situated around a harbour and well known for its wild mountainous seas in the Autumn and Winter and its dreamy Spring and Summer days, beach, fishing, boat trips, surfing and beautiful outstanding coastal walks. There is also a bar of sand between the ocean and a fresh water lake, set back in woodland which is an unusual phenomenon.

St Michaels Mount and Porthleven
Carleen is 7 miles from St Michael’s Mount, with its fairytale castle and subtropical gardens, not to mention good quality food in the National Trust restaurant. Depending on the tide, you can walk across the cobbled causeway to the Mount or take a boat when the tide is in. Five minutes drive away you will find yourself at Trevarno Estate Gardens which dates back to 1246. It is situated in a sheltered valley, surrounded by an abundance of beauty, not to mention peacocks and a quality restaurant in the conservatory or the main dining room heated with a wood burning stove. Cornwall is renowned for its ‘cream teas’ and the neighbouring village at Sithney, has a popular Tea Room at the Handy Shop. Also if you want to experience excellent cuisine The Grove restaurant is also at Sithney. It is the best eating establishment for miles around and opens for lunches and evening meals. Recently they have had weekly Jazz evenings with tapas.
